Samson’s Story
In October 2025, while traveling to Lethbridge, Troy came across a situation that would change this big gentle giant, and Troy's life. Along a stretch of highway, a large puppy was darting dangerously in and out of traffic. Several good-hearted citizens had already pulled over to help, and Troy stopped as well.
Multiple calls were placed to the authorities in hopes that someone could come and bring the dog to safety. As they waited, it became clear just how vulnerable he was. He was severely underweight, his ribs clearly visible, and it was evident he hadn’t eaten properly for some time. Those who had arrived first explained that when they initially stopped, the puppy had been with other dogs. When approached, the others ran off—this one stayed behind.
That puppy was Samson.
Samson is an extraordinarily gentle and well-mannered dog. Even when confronted with aggression from much smaller dogs, he instinctively backs down. On more than one occasion, other dogs have growled at or even bitten him, and Samson has never once responded with aggression. He seems to believe everyone is simply trying to play. Knowing this, it’s easy to understand how, while traveling with a pack, Samson may have often gone without food.
After nearly 45 minutes of trying to arrange help, it became clear that another plan was needed. Troy offered to take Samson into Lethbridge and find him a safe place or a shelter. Getting Samson into the truck was not easy. He was large, frightened, and intimidating in appearance, and Troy had no way of knowing how the dog might react. With no other option, Troy carefully but firmly lifted and guided him into the truck.
Despite his fear, Samson showed no aggression—only distress. He cried softly the entire time. During the drive into Lethbridge, Samson rested his head on Troy’s arm and looked at him the whole way. In that quiet moment, a bond was formed.
With such an incredible temperament and spirit, Troy couldn’t bring himself to give Samson up. He brought him to the veterinarian to check for a tattoo or microchip, and to get all the his necessary shots. When none were found, it became official—Samson had found his forever home.
The veterinarian estimated Samson to be a Weiler Dane, a cross between a Rottweiler and a Great Dane, approximately 8–9 months old at the time and weighing about 85 pounds. This breed typically continues growing until around 15 months and can reach between 135 and 175 pounds.
Today, Samson spends about half of his time at the dealership, where he warmly greets everyone who walks through the door. Many visitors now bring treats just for him. But Samson is more than a friendly greeter—he is going to become the heart and face of a new initiative that Fernie Chrysler will be launching later in 2026.
This upcoming Pet Rescue Project will have nothing to do with vehicle sales and everything to do with helping dogs and cats find safe, loving, forever homes. Samson, with his gentle nature and remarkable story, is proving to be the perfect ambassador.
We have many videos planned to share Samson’s journey, and we’re excited to introduce this meaningful project soon. The all-new team at Fernie Chrysler warmly invite
